Red Vodka Asks: Do you have doujins that you physically want to own for keeping (please include an ExHentai link)? Why? What’s holding you back?
For me, I would like this doujin. It might be that I’m still a bit too excited over something new, but man, this is my favorite doujin I’ve read so far (excluding commercial magazine stuff). It has awesome art (maybe not the absolute best, but still excellent), and more importantly, it’s paced really nicely. The artist shows a woman completely changed and broken in about 70 pages, and keeps the action going by throwing in some other girls. More importantly, he does enough character development with Yuria, so that her fall has more impact. Nothing feels redundant or unnecessary.
What’s holding me back is that I don’t know what I’m really going to do with it for the rest of my life. Am I just going to hide it forever (unless I live out the rest of my life ronery ;_;)?
Ooh, a question I can answer! I’ll start by what’s holding me back… two things: 1) money, and 2) idiotic laws that are such that I could end up in jail for ordering drawings from Japan. Now, for the things I’d like to have a physical copy of… I can’t narrow it down to one, please don’t ask! :

The idea of a guy turning into a girl and gradually, reluctantly noticing a shift in sexual preference is a big favorite of mine, and kind of an underexplored theme in manga I think. Okawari – Girl is a notable example, but in that one I don’t like the main character as much, and the story kinda drags on. He also turns back, which is kind of a bummer to me. I’m reminded of XChange 3 and how shitty that game made you feel whenever you tried to steer into staying a girl…

I’d like to own everything by Cyclone as well. Especially the Nanoha ones .. I love the art because it feels closest to the manga/anime without any artistic changes like giant boobs where they don’t belong and such .. And rape + awesome art .. what’s there not to want?
What’s holding me back is that I have most of Cyclone already, what I don’t have are rare releases? that I haven’t been able to find online yet and/or are too expensive to buy. No stupid laws to worry about here though..
And it’s not like I showcase my doujinshis or anything .. They’re not particularly hidden either. Just hide the ones with nasty covers below the ones with innocent-looking covers lol.

Just wanted to agree that this book is great. Anyone who burnt enough hours on the game will surely get an extra kick out of the many in-world references, although some things are entirely fictitious but necessary for the narrative.

To me it was honestly less hot and actually a pretty nice story.
Although I have purchased one http://exhentai.org/g/355562/2aa722ac0f/ it was more of as a souvenir. It stays unopened, in a brown paper bag, in a plastic bag. There wasn’t particularly a big reason for this title in particular apart from it was one that I was familiar with and had enjoyed.
As for picking up any additional ones that I’d love to keep, it would probably come down to finding some awesome stuff from a favorite artist at Comiket. That said, I’d probably pick up anything I saw that was Demon’s Souls/Dark Soul in a heart beat. It’s oft looked over and has great potential. The few works I’ve seen are ones that I’ve returned to more often than most, if only largely because of the uniqueness.
The language barrier and pricing are largely the things that hold me back. Though I can enjoy a good untranslated work, a large part is lost. They end up more as souvenir pieces for me, and ones that aren’t particularly displayable at that. While I can put my Japanese copies of various Games, Art Books, and Soundtracks on a shelf and they can be appreciated by most, hentai works are sadly not quite the same kind of conversation piece.
Unless you invite perverts like us… In which case I think it’ll serve as a very good “conversation” piece.
I have a few that I’d love to own (mostly loli stuffs with Fatal Pulse thrown in for flavor) but what keeps me from following up on any purchases are the lack of cash and the questionable legalities that any such purchase might entail.
